Newsletter 4-27-16

We spent last week reviewing for our language arts CFA, and our class did great!  This week we are reading Just Like Josh Gibson.  Ask your child what he or she learned about how baseball has changed over the years.

We practiced opinion writing in class by writing essays about what we thought was the best season.

We just finished our unit on money.  Our students did well on the test, and they made these fun piggy banks to combine math and art.

It was interesting to see the money students brought to show the class, especially coins from other countries.  Please continue to have them count money at home.

Our Ugly Duckling play was a huge success!  The kids did a fabulous job.  Thank you for your support.

Tianna earned our citizenship award for forgiveness!

We have a couple kids that are close to passing off their Reflex Math addition and subtraction facts.  Students need 100% by May 5 to earn the party.

We have had fun practicing our skills with a computer quiz game called Quizizz.  Here are some students working hard while having fun!

Many students have not had their planners lately.  Please continue to sign and send them back each day.

Thanks for your support at home.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Newsletter 3-3-16

We had a fun, busy week!  We celebrated college week with all sorts of activities.  On Career Day, we got to hear from a forensic scientist, a doctor, a computer programmer, and a graphic designer.

The computer programmer gave us the link to the programs he explained to us.  The kids were excited to try it at home.  Here it is: http://mjgyesme.github.io

We ended the week with our traditional College Week assembly.  Our second-graders were from Second-Grade Seals University.  Ask your child to show you our cheer!

Sadie got to represent second grade in a dance-off.  She did an awesome job!

We finished our math unit on geometry and will be starting our money unit after spring break.  The more your child is exposed to money at home, the easier this unit will be.  There are some fun educational money games on our blog that the kids can do over the break.

Please have your child continue to read over spring break.  Our April reading calendars were not handed out, so please keep track of minutes read.  The break is also a great time to work on Reflex Math.  Our goal is to be 100% fluent in math facts by May 5.  We have some students who are getting close!

We had a fantastic time on our field trip!  Our groups got to explore the museum and see many things we had studied in class like rocks, erosion, plants, and weather.  There was a traveling exhibit with geckos, which we all loved seeing.  Thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped out that day!

We have been collecting pretend money for good behavior in class, and I’m planning to do a class store soon.  If you are able to help with the store on a Friday or donate any items for the store, please send me an email.

We’ve been practicing for our second-grade performance of the Ugly Duckling.  The students are doing well learning their lines, songs, and dances.  As a reminder, the parent performance is Thursday, April 14 at 2:00.

We’ll have our Fun Run assembly the day we come back from spring break.  The Fun Run will be Thursday, April 21.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thanks for all you do!
