Newsletter 5-22-18

ELA

We read Red, White and Blue and learned about the history of the American flag and the start of our country.  We've had a great time the last few weeks singing, speaking, acting, and making movies to help us with our academics.

Math
We finished our unit on graphing and had fun making our own graphs.

We are studying geometry in math and have learned many vocabulary words.  Ask your child to explain a quadrilateral, pentagon, and hexagon.

We moved up to 93%.  Hooray!  I am excited to announce that I am moving students who have reached 100% in addition and subtraction on Reflex math up to multiplication and division from 0-10.  This is an opportunity for students to get a head start on math skills they will need for the beginning of third grade.

Students who have dropped below 100% or have not made their goal yet will be moved up when they reach the 100% mark.  If your child does not reach 100% in addition and subtraction before the last week of school they will be moved up automatically.

Students will have access to their Reflex math accounts over the summer.  I HIGHLY encourage you to help your child get a green light at least 3 times or more each week this summer.  This will ensure that children are ready to start the rigorous 3rd grade math program in the fall.

Science & Social Studies
In science we are studying rocks.  We did a Nearpod and learned how to sort rocks into three types.  Here is some of our work:

We are learning about U.S. symbols, and we worked together in teams today to play Quizlet Live!

Other

We had an fantastic field trip to the aquarium!  Thank you to all the parents who chaperoned.  We couldn't have done it without you.
