Newsletter 4-25

We've been busy since spring break.  We finished our fifth language arts unit on responsibility, and we took the CFA test.  Our class did a terrific job!  Watch for the printout of your child’s score.  We will begin our last unit on Monday, which focuses on traditions and celebrations.

We’ve been working on narrative writing in this unit.  We chose our favorite spring activity to write about and made cute spring lambs!

We are working on adding and subtracting money in math, and we will take the test this week.  The kids enjoyed displaying their favorite coins on money day.  Thanks for helping them.  Although we finished our unit on counting money, please have your child continue to practice.  The more we practice, the better we get!

We are so excited for our Ugly Duckling performance!  We have been rehearsing, and the kids have learned their parts very well.  Remember, the parent performance is at 2:00 on Thursday, April 30.  We hope you can make it!

Our SOAR week was a success!  Our students earned lots of something to celebrate tickets, and eight lucky winners got Pop Rocks.  We had an awesome rock star day!

We have been learning about respect and responsibility in class.  We ended with a great assembly, where Sienna received our award.

We are so lucky to have two programs taught by parent volunteers.  Trinity’s mom is teaching Junior Achievement, and we’re learning a lot about economics.  Madison’s mom is teaching Art Awareness.  We painted beautiful flower pictures on Friday.  Thank you!

We had such a fun Tool Day at school.  Logan’s dad, Trinity’s mom, and Henry’s dad all talked about their careers.  We learned a lot!

Thank you for all your help signing planners and making sure your child returns his or her homework.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Newsletter 3-31-15

Our language arts unit is focusing on responsibility.  We’ve talked about being responsible citizens, pet owners, and friends.

We finished our math unit on three-digit addition and subtraction.  It was a tough one, but our kids did great!  We are finishing our unit on geometry this week.

We read about firefighters in language arts, and we had a fire fighter visit our classroom.  He explained his job, taught us about fire safety, and showed us the tools he uses for his job.  We also wrote facts and opinions about fire fighters.

We had a terrific time on St. Patrick’s Day!  We wrote about finding a leprechaun, we made our own leprechauns, and we did Lucky Charms graphing.  Some sneaky leprechauns got into our classroom at lunchtime and caused some mischief!

We have been practicing our songs, dances and speaking parts for the Ugly Duckling play.  The parent performance will be Thursday, April 30 at 2:00.  We hope you can make it!

If your child has not brought back his or her reading calendar, it needs to be turned in by Friday.

We’ve had three kids achieve 100% fluency on their math facts 0-10 in Reflex Math: Hannah, Trinity, and Henry.  Way to go!  Please have your child spend some time on Reflex Math over spring break.  We have several kids who are close to 100%!

We are celebrating college week.  Our class is B.A.C.K.S. University.  (Ask your child what it means.)  We are the leatherback turtles.  Please have your child wear green and/or grey on Friday.  We're excited to do our cheer for the rest of the school!

Have a wonderful spring break!
