Newsletter 6-15-17

We’ve wrapped up a terrific year!  I have loved teaching your children, and I appreciate all the support you’ve given at home.  It’s exciting to see how much growth our kids have made this year!

We learned all about cowboys in language arts.  We wrote about a cowboy’s gear, did a cowboy craft, and dressed like cowboys.

We finished our geometry unit on shapes, rows and columns, and fractions.

We used our ChromeBooks to do a great digital citizenship lesson on cyberbullying.  Students talked about what the term meant, and they drew pictures of what they would do if anyone was mean to them online.  Ask your child about it.

We had a fun last week with our read-a-thon, mismatched pajama day, the end-of-year assembly, sharing our portfolios, watching our Ugly Duckling performance, and eating snacks.

Thank you so much for all the gifts and cards.  I appreciate how thoughtful you were.  The kids said they liked spoiling me! J

Congratulations to Steele, who passed his 20-Book Challenge!

Nice job passing a level on Lexia, Brox!

Mya is 100% fluent in Reflex Math.  Hooray!

Here are some ideas to help your children keep their skills sharp over the summer:

  •     Keep using Reflex Math to try to make the 100% fluency goal or to maintain 100% fluency.  Third grade will focus on multiplication and division, so it is important to have addition and subtraction mastered.
  •     Keep using Lexia.  The lessons are tailored to meet your needs and fill in gaps.  Even the best readers benefit from these lessons.
  •     Read every day!  Join the library summer reading program.  Have your parents ask you comprehension questions.
  •     Look online to find other places that will reward your reading.
  •     Write every day.  Keep a daily journal, a weekend journal, or a vacation journal.  Make a scrapbook, and write captions for the pictures.
  •     Pay for items with cash, and count the change.
  •     Look for shapes around you.  See if you can name the shape and count sides, angles, vertices, faces, edges, etc.
  •          Pick up a second-grade summer review book.

Look who I ran into at the library!  Bennett and his family were signing up for the reading program and checking out books.  Way to go, Bennett!

Enjoy your summer!
