We are reading the nature story Exploring Parks with Ranger Dockett and working on vocabulary and comprehension.  We’ve been learning about fact and opinion, commands, and antonyms.

We finished our unit on money today, but please continue to have your child practice at home.  Counting change is great way to do this.  There are also some fun games on our blog, mrsadams2.blogspot.com.  Any practice can count for math homework in the planner.

Our class is studying citizenship in social studies.  We walked down to the voting machines Tuesday to see how they work.

We did a Veteran’s Day activity with our buddy class today.  We wrote letters thanking our Servicemen and women overseas.

We had a great program about reptiles on Wednesday.  We met a tortoise, a blue-tongued skink, and a python named Monte.  We even got to pet Monte!

Our star of the week was Jaden.  We enjoyed getting to know him better!

Book orders are due next Friday, November 18.  Thanks to those of you who ordered in October.  We earned several free books for our classroom.  Online orders get us even more free books!

Thank you for your support, and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  Have a great weekend!

Kid's College

We have exciting news!  Kid's College is ready, and your child can use it to practice math and reading skills.  Our login code is KCC63296.  The password for all students is adams.  Have fun!

Thanks to everyone who sent back the yellow Highlights form.  We will get some great materials for our classroom absolutely free.  Thanks to those of you who ordered books from our September book order.  Your orders help us get free books for our classroom library.  For every online order, we get even more books.  You can still place online orders through the weekend.

We had a good week at school.  Enjoy your weekend! : )

Newsletter 9/9

                                      Class News
                             Mrs. Adams   Sept. 9, 2011

We had our first spelling test today.  Please make sure your child is doing a spelling activity each day at home.  You can use the ideas on the pink sheet I sent home, or you can make up activities of your own.

We finished the story Dragon Gets By and took a vocabulary quiz and comprehension test.  We read each of our stories several times in class and practice the vocabulary words over a two-week period.

We are working on addition strategies in math.  Please help your child memorize the facts to 18, especially the doubles.  Watch for the folded math page to come home most days.  We work on them together in class.

We started practicing keyboarding this week.  We have learned fun songs, practiced keyboard etiquette, and typed the letters in home row.

I hope you had a chance to check out our blog, mrsadams2.blogspot.com.  Your child can review our interactive math lessons, try out manipulatives in e-tools and the toolbox, and hear our math story.  This can count as daily math practice.  The Kevin Henkes website is also a lot of fun!

Our class is studying the night sky with Mrs. Stockett this month.  This includes the moon, stars, and planets.

I’m sending home a yellow Highlights form.  Will you please sign and return it next week?  If you are not interested in ordering Highlights, just check no and sign.  If you are interested, include your address, as well.  Even if they are all marked NO, we can still get free items for our classroom!

If you haven’t already returned your CityGro money or cards, please do that as soon as possible.  Our school gets half of the money for each card sold, which helps pay for our SOAR and social skills programs at school.

I will email our classroom volunteers this weekend to set up days and times.

Thank you for your support, and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  Have a great weekend!
