December Newsletter

We've had a busy end of the year!  We started the month with RAD Kids.  I was so proud of our kids and their hard work.  We are thankful for our fabulous teachers and Mr. Schofield.

Besides teaching RAD Kids, Mrs. Stolfa also teaches us social skills.  We had two lessons on keeping friendships, resolving conflicts, using good manners and more.
Role Playing

We had fun on career day and had visits from several parents in our school.

Our buddies helped us write letters to Santa.  We were so excited when his elves wrote back to each of us!  We knew our letters had come from the North Pole, because the envelope was still cold!

Our Polar Express day was a huge success!  We had fun wearing our pajamas all day.  We read the book, did Polar Express language centers, and watched parts of the movie.

We did a great job singing around the tree for the other classes in our school.  Santa made an appearance and brought us candy canes.

Enjoy the rest of your winter break, and remember to keep reading and filling out your reading charts.  I'll see all of you on January 2!

November Newsletter

Our class had our own mock election and predicted who would be President!  We also attended a candy bar debate presented by our buddy class.  After listening to speeches, we voted for our favorite candy bar and Twix won the election.  We all got a Twix bar to celebrate!

We had fun with Thanksgiving writing and math activities, as well as several art projects.  We had a great time making turkeys with our buddy class.  It was nice time to reflect on what we appreciated about each person in our family.

We are so excited that we have RAD Kids next week!  Please remind your child to wear comfortable clothes and shoes all week.  We will have our RAD Kids graduation next Friday at 9:00.  There will be more information during the week.

Our big question in reading has been "How can we work together?"  All of our stories have revolved around this theme.  We have learned about common nouns, proper nouns, plural nouns, and possessive nouns.

Our math unit is on mental math addition.  We are practicing adding two-digit numbers in our heads.  I love hearing all the strategies our smart kids come up with to find the correct answers.  They are so creative!

We have been reading Jan Brett books this week, such as The Mitten and The Hat.  The kids loved going to her website on Thursday.  The link is on our blog.

If you still want to order books, the link is https://orders.scholastic.com/GYPDT.  If you would like to order Christmas gifts for your kids, just send me an email, and I will make sure they don't see them.  I will send in the order on Saturday.

Reading charts are due on Monday.  Remember to have your child practice with Kids' College, too.  The goal is 100 minutes each month.

Have a great weekend!

Halloween Fun

October was a fun month at school!  We had special songs and activities, and it was over before we knew it.

We made spooky Halloween art projects this month.

We are studying place value in math.  Our next unit is money, so it would be great if you could start practicing counting money at home.  There are money lessons and games on this blog.

Our Kids' College goals have been reduced.  Students are asked to do twenty-five minutes a week, making the goal one hundred minutes per month.  They are welcome to do more than that, but they need at least that many minutes to get the PTA prize.  Our login is KCC63296.

We had a great Red Ribbon Week!  We wore slippers, boots, crazy socks, and sunglasses.  This is a picture of us wearing red on the last day.  We are holding up skeletons that we made with our buddy class.

In language arts, we read an amazing dog story called Tara and Tiree, Fearless Friends, by Andrew Clements.  We also read Abraham Lincoln, by Delores Malone.  We are studying common and proper nouns.

We had a terrific Halloween party!  Everyone looked so good in their costumes.  Our room mothers made fun centers with crafts, games, and stories for the kids.  Thank you to Mrs. Snaufer, Mrs. Schnabel, Mrs. Hollberg, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Mogenson.

Fall Newsletter

We have had a great first month of school!  Our class has been working hard and having fun.

We have enjoyed our weekly content areas.  Some of our favorites were outer space and the desert.  Next week is a review week, so there will be no spelling test.

Thank you for signing and sending your child's planner each day.  It is a great way for us to communicate.  Please continue to have your child read and practice their math facts.  Remember the goal for Kids' College is forty minutes a week for second grade.

Please send back homework on Fridays, even if it is done early.

We are reading Eric Carle books in class and studying insects.  We love The Honeybee and the Robber.

We had a good time with our buddy class, Ms. Salamon's sixth grade class.  We played addition bingo together.  The big kids were so sweet with our second graders.

We have been doing many apple activities in class.  We learned about Johnny Appleseed, made a book, tasted different varieties of apples, and made a graph.  We have done apple writing and apple art.

Book orders are due next Friday, October 12.  We'll try to have them here by Halloween.

Thanks so much for your help in class.  Please let me know if you have any question or concerns.  Remember there is no school this Monday.

We had a fabulous time on our field trip to the animal farm.  Enjoy the pictures!

We're petting the goats.

We even got to feed them!

We're making ice cream.

It was delicious!

We had fun on the hay ride.

The horses were friendly.

What a great field trip!
