Newsletter 3-23-16

We are learning about geometry in math and studying the attributes of solid figures and plane shapes.  We also had fun with Lucky Charms graphing for Saint Patrick’s Day.

Our next math unit will be money.  Because it can be a difficult concept, we are already learning the names and values of the different coins.  The more your child can work with money at home, the easier it will be for her or him when we begin our unit.  There are also some fun money games on the blog.

The students are earning plastic money for good behavior, which they will be able to use to buy items at a class store.  If you are able to donate any small items, (stickers, pencils, toys, etc.) for the store or help run it on a Friday, please email me.

Keep having your child work on Reflex Math.  We have some students who are getting close to 100% mastery!

Please remind your child to bring his or her homework back on time each week.  Students know that they need to cut out their spelling words and do three activities to earn their sticker on the chart.  You can always do a practice test as one of the activities.  Just write it and initial it on the activity page.

Alia earned our citizenship award for cooperation.  Way to go!

We are excited for our field trip to the Natural History Museum this Friday!  If your child signed up for a home lunch, please make sure they have it that day.

We have been practicing our parts for our second grade musical, The Ugly Duckling.  This program ties in with our language arts standards and citizenship skills.  Our performance for parents will be Thursday, April 14 at 2:00.  If it is not possible for you to attend the 2:00 performance, there will be limited seating at our student performance at 9:00.

Thank you for all your help and support at home.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
