Newsletter 10-19-16

We read an incredible, true story last week about two dogs called Tara & Tiree, Fearless Friends.  Your child can read you the story on the Pearson website.  This week we prepared to read Abraham Lincoln.  We are also working on common and proper nouns and learning about contractions, which we will do for spelling next week.

We had a great time acting out our reading story The Strongest One.  It was a terrific way to practice using expression in our reading.

We also got in groups and acted out a Christopher Columbus play.

We are wrapping up math topic 3, adding within 100 using strategies.  We practiced solving problems by using a hundred chart, making an open number line, and breaking apart numbers.  We will start topic 4, fluently adding within 100, on Monday.

Congratulations to Nathan for achieving 100% fluency on addition and subtraction facts in Reflex Math.  Excellent job!

Congratulations to Micah for earning the citizenship award for responsibility.  Way to go!

It’s great to see how many students are using our educational websites such as Pearson, Reflex Math, Lexia, and MyOn.  Remember that they can all be accessed through Clever with the information you got at parent-teacher conferences.  I added an additional attachment about MyOn to this email.

Please call the office if your child is not going to be at school.  If your child is going to miss school for a vacation, please stop by the office at least a week in advance to fill out a form.

Next week we will start Red Ribbon Week to help our students remember to say no to drugs.  Check the red flier that went home this week for more information.  Please remind your child to wear red, white, and blue on Monday.

We are so excited to start RAD Kids next week during our brain booster times.  Please return your signed permission slip by Monday if you haven’t already.

Picture retakes will be Friday, October 28.

We will be celebrating Halloween on Monday, October 31.  The school parade is at 8:45, and our fabulous room parents are planning our class party at 12:30.  Please remember that no masks or weapons are allowed.

These are some of the fun projects are kids have created in their art class!

Please sign your child’s planner each night and remind him or her to bring it to school each day.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Enjoy the fall break!
